USM Alger chase second CAF Super Cup crown against Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria

USM Alger are one game away from another piece of continental silverware. The Algerian club, winners of the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup (Africa’s second-tier club competition), face CAF Champions League holders Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Super Cup on Sunday 8 November at Loftus Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa. Kick-off is at 3pm local time (1pm in the UK, 2pm in Scandinavia, 8am on the US East Coast).

The Algiers side earned their place the hard way. They beat Egyptian giants Zamalek 1-0 in the first leg of the final at the Stade du 5 Juillet, lost the return leg 1-0 in Cairo, then held their nerve to win an epic shoot-out 8-7. Sundowns, meanwhile, lifted their second Champions League title in May, edging Morocco’s AS FAR 2-1 on aggregate.

USM Alger know what it takes: they won the Super Cup in 2023, beating Al Ahly 1-0. Sundowns’ only previous triumph came in 2017, when they beat TP Mazembe 1-0. Head-to-head, though, the South Africans hold the edge. The clubs met twice in the group stage of the 2019-20 Champions League, and Sundowns won both games, 1-0 in Algiers and 2-1 at home.
